Saturday, December 16, 2017 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM
University Press Books, 2430 Bancroft Way, Berkeley, CA 94704

Marilyn Schuster, professor emerita in the Study of Women & Gender at Smith College, will present a reading of her new book, A Queer Love Story: The Letters of Jane Rule and Rick  Bébout (UBC Press). Jane Rule, who grew up in the San Francisco Bay Area before moving to British Columbia, and Rick Bébout, who left Massachusetts for Toronto, were both expats who took Canadian citizenship. The Times Literary Supplement called A Queer Love Story “a superb collection of letters richly descriptive of the lives and rights of gay people before and during the AIDS crisis in North America.” The Toronto Star reviewer wrote “It’s one of history’s all-time great love stories.” Books will be available for purchase.
