Book Launch & Jazz Show: Live at the Cellar

You are invited to join musicologist and author Marian Jago and the Mike Murley Quartet at The Pilot for a book launch and jazz show. Marian Jago will open each set with a few words from "Live at the Cellar: Vancouver’s Iconic Jazz Club and the Canadian Co-operative Jazz Scene in the 1950s and ‘60s." "Live at the Cellar" is the first book to document the rise of co-operative jazz clubs in Canada, including the Cellar, Black Spot/Flat Five (Vancouver), Foggy Manor (Calgary), Yardbird Suite (Edmonton), and 777 Barrington Street (Halifax). Many of the jazz musicians that were involved in the co-operatives now call Toronto home. ...more
