An A-Z of Community Care Law

Jessica Kingsley Publishers
Written to meet the need for concise explanation of the key legal issues in community care, this comprehensive A to Z gives the reader immediate access to the definitions they are seeking, and is the first book to summarise systematically many of the recent legal cases. The book approaches community care by breaking it down into individual terms such as assessment, criteria of eligibility, home help, needs, unreasonable decisions, and then explaining the legal and practical implications of each term in plain language. This approach enables specific issues to be explored quickly and concisely, and also cross-referenced to summaries of Acts of Parliament and judicial review cases decided in the law courts.Community care is currently afflicted by escalating legal uncertainties, apparent disparity between people's needs and available resources, and intensified scrutiny by judges. As a response to this situation, the book provides the busy reader - practitioner, adviser, lawyer, policymaker or academic - with an effective and essential tool, usable at different levels of detail, to get to grips with this complex and confusing subject.

'this book is an essential, easy-to-read reference for both practitioners and students... Extensive cross-references do much to help the reader gain a snapshot of major challenges to particular areas of law.'- Therapy Weekly'There are many books available on specific aspects of community care legislation, but this is the first I have seen which covers the concept as a whole. This book provides succinct, clear explanations, listed alphabetically under useful, descriptive headings... agile cross-referencing is the key to most effective use of this manual.'- Mental Health Care'It provides the means for any issue, or the core points of any issue, to be explored quickly... efficient and easy to use... all involved with community care would find things in this book that would be useful in their work. This is a worthwhile purchase, especially I would suggest for small voluntary agencies, advocacy services and the like.'- Exchange on Ageing, Law and Ethics'... it tackles matters in an extremely understandable way and should appeal to lawyers and non-lawyers alike - it represents good value for anyone exploring this field of community care.'- Elderly Client Adviser'This book is clearly laid out and easy to use... it will be particularly useful to service managers, and practitioners, as well as voluntary organisations, advice agencies, lawyers, private sector providers, lecturers and students. But it has much to interest service users too.- Aware, a publication of the Scottish Motor Neurone Disease Association'[It is] written in a plain, readable style which generates interest in a potentially 'dry' and complex subject area.'- The National Association of Occupational Therapists working for people with Learning Disabilities'... a very helpful dictionary of Community Care Law, which should be of assistance to who work on the field of older clients. [I]t tackles matters in an extremely understandable way and should appeal to lawyers and non-lawyers alikevery valuable and for oe12.95 represents very good value for anyone exploring this field of community care.'- Elderly Client Adviser
