Exploring Collections from the Endeavour Voyage, 1768-1771
When English naturalist Joseph Banks accompanied Captain James Cookon his historic mission into the Pacific, the Endeavour voyageof 1768–1771, he took with him a team of collectors andillustrators. They returned with artifacts and specimens of stunningbirds, fish and other animals as well as thousands of plants andremarkable landscape and figure drawings of the peoples encountered onthe voyage, along with the first detailed maps of these lands. Originalvoyage specimens are shown together with illustrations and descriptionsof them, many of which have never been published before.
