In Conversation with Hugh Segal

Hamilton Community Foundation hosts Hugh Segal for a discussion on ending poverty in Canada. Hugh is a former senator who served as Chief of Staff for two prime ministers. He is a champion for universal basic income which he discusses in his recently published book Bootstraps Need Boots: One Tory’s Lonely Fight to End Poverty in Canada.

Hugh Segal has been an advisor to Premiers and a Prime Minister, and has been involved in some of the late twentieth century’s most important policy negotiations including the Canada-US Free Trade Agreement and the Patriation of the Constitution.

He was appointed to the Senate of Canada where he co-chaired the Senate’s Standing Committee on Social Affairs and wrote a seminal report called In From the Margins about the need to reduce poverty in Canada.
