W. L. Clayton
Washington Lafayette (W. L.) Clayton (1836-1921) was a Civil War veteran, a noted lawyer, and a historian in Tupelo, Mississippi. And although his highest official military rank was that of captain, he was known as "Colonel Clayton" for the rest of his life.
