The Norman Colbeck Collection of Nineteenth-Century and Edwardian Poetry and Belles Lettres
Edited by T. Bose and Paul Tiessen
UBC Press
The Colbeck collection was formed over half a century ago by the Bournemouth bookseller Norman Colbeck. Focusing primarily on British essayists and poets of the nineteenth century from the Romantic Movement through the Edwardian era, the collection features nearly 500 authors and lists over 13,000 works. Entries are alphabetically arranged by author with copious notes on the condition and binding of each copy. Nine appendices provide listings of selected periodicals, series publications, anthologies, yearbooks, and topical works.
Essential reading for anyone interested in the highways and biways of literature in the period between 1870 and 1920.
Libraries with strong collections in this field will find this an interesting complement to the literary biographies and checklists of more major authors and book catalogues.
The catalogue as it stands serves as an impressive permanent record of the Colbeck Collection ... The collaborative efforts of a very knowledgeable bookseller, cataloguers, editors, and the University of British Columbia staff have combined to make available a permanent record of a valuable research collection.
